Generic Estriol Topical (Estriol)

Common use

Estriol Topical is prescribed for the treatment of menopausal symptoms caused by low estrogen levels, including vaginal dryness, burning, itching, and discomfort during urination or sexual activity. It works by replenishing local estrogen levels, restoring tissue elasticity, and improving moisture in the affected area.

Dosage and direction

Apply the prescribed amount of Estriol Topical cream, gel, or ointment to the affected area once or twice daily, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Wash your hands before and after application. Avoid applying to broken or irritated skin unless directed by your doctor.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of breast cancer, uterine cancer, blood clots, liver disease, or unexplained vaginal bleeding. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Avoid contact with eyes, and do not ingest the topical preparation.

Contraindications

Do not use Estriol Topical if allergic to estriol or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in individuals with active breast or uterine cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or history of estrogen-sensitive tumors without medical supervision.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include mild local irritation, redness, itching, or burning at the application site. Rare but serious side effects may include allergic reactions, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or signs of blood clots. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Estriol Topical may interact with other hormone therapies, certain liver medications, or drugs that affect estrogen metabolism. Inform your doctor about all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed application.

Overdose

Overdose may cause excessive estrogen-related effects, including nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, or abnormal bleeding. Seek medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Estriol Topical at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep the tube or container tightly closed and out of reach of children.
